Guide Format

This build guide is split over multiple pages, both to prevent it from getting too long, as well as to help you better find the information you are looking for. In addition to the current page, which presents general information about the build and also contains a Leveling and FAQ section, we have the following pages:

Introduction

Divine Ire Divine Ire is a channelling spell that got introduced into Path of Exile with patch 3.6. By default, the skill is Physical-based with 50% of base damage converted to Lightning. While you are channelling the skill, you essentially gain charges, which cap at 20; if you have enemies nearby, you damage them with little beams of energy and gain changes faster. Once you release the channelled Divine Ire, you release a powerful beam of energy that deals an immense burst of damage based on charges. The skill gains 100% more damage with hits per charge after the first one, which essentially means you will do 1900% more damage with hits at 20 stages.

The reason we choose Trickster for this particular build is mainly because of Harness the Void. Combining this ascendancy node with The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud can result in insane amounts of Chaos damage on top of your Lightning damage. This ascendancy class also has great balance between offense and defense.

Build Summary

The build can be played on a budget. A simple Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa can carry you a long way. Even on a 4-Link the skill has enough damage to deal with content early on. Building around The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud means you will want to have only Shaper-based items equipped, which is kind of specific and can be a pain in the beginning of gearing.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Good endgame potential
+ Can off-screen immobile monsters

Cons

- The channelling spell caster playstyle might not be for everyone
- You one-shot yourself to Elemental reflect
- You have to be stationary while you deal damage

Playstyle

Offensively, the build allows for an aggressive playstyle. Keeping your Power/Frenzy charges, flasks and other buffs up all the time will allow you to move around and clear quickly. Releasing a 5-charge of Divine Ire Divine Ire should be enough to kill most monster packs. Channelling for around a second here and there should be done in order to keep up the buff from Infused Channelling Support Infused Channelling Support. When fighting tough single targets, make sure you drop down your Wave of Conviction Wave of Conviction totems and charge up stronger beams, preferably releasing Divine Ire at 15+ charges.

Defensively, keeping your distance should be easy with this build, since Divine Ire’s beam has great range. Versus white and blue packs of monsters, you will not really worry about taking a lot of damage since you will probably obliterate them with a single one-second cast. You can deal with Porcupines by using your totems as a meat-shield. The build achieves respectable amount of damage mitigation via buffs, passive tree nodes, ascendancy nodes, and flasks.

For Playstyle, casting quickly and releasing Divine Ire will be enough to kill everything around and in front of you. Keeping up a good tempo will be required in order to keep up your Power and Frenzy charges. Against bosses, drop your totems, which will help out with single target damage output and lower enemies’ Lightning resistance. With a good amount of cast speed you will quickly reach 20 stacks of Divine Ire, which will hit bosses often for a big portion of their life.

Passive tree

This is the endgame passive skill tree for the build.

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

You can start using Divine Ire Divine Ire at level 28, it is a great leveling skill.

Leveling Trees

As long as you have two Axiom Perpetuum Axiom Perpetuum you can start investing into critical nodes early on, which will make you deal tons of damage. This is an early representation of the passive skill tree.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Two Axiom Perpetuum Axiom Perpetuum will allow you to build around critical strikes from early on, which will make your content progress that much easier.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Explosive Trap Explosive Trap
  2. Lesser Poison Support Lesser Poison Support

At level 8, your Explosive Trap Explosive Trap should look like this.

  2. Multiple Traps Support Multiple Traps Support

  3. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support
  4. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support

At level 28, you are finally ready to start using your signature skill, Divine Ire Divine Ire. Simply swap the gem with Storm Burst, the supports should remain the same.

At level 34, you should add Summon Lightning Golem Summon Lightning Golem.

FAQ

Why choose Trickster over other viable ascendancy classes?

Trickster brings in very interesting mechanics to build around, which other ascendancy classes do not have. Harness the Void can make you feel so powerful when you get a decent proc, keeping up charges and Ghost Shrouds really make the playstyle fun. This ascendancy class has great balance between offense and defense; other classes like Inquisitor and Occultist are also great choices, but for this particular build guide we choose the Trickster.

Conclusion

The Divine Ire Trickster is a channelling spell-based caster that specializes in releasing powerful beam of energy that obliterates everything in its path. The build has the potential to do any content the game has to offer.

Changelog
  •

Revisited and updated for Delirium 3.10. The build remains extremely solid.

  •

Revisited and updated for Metamorph 3.9. The build is more expensive to gear than before but remains just as powerful.

  •

Revisited and updated for Blight 3.8. The build is only affected by the slight nerf to Ghost Dance, which is very minor and does not make any difference.

Trickster’s Ghost Dance nodes got nerfed but is still very good. The build guide is working as intended. You can also play Inquisitor if you choose to do so for sure! Nice name by the way.

Simply use an Amulet with life and resistances until you can afford one with decent offensive stats.

Is finding 2 wands, or a staff that gives + to the level of physical or lightning gems going to be the top priority now?

It definitely gives this build the power it did not have access to before. If you can get your hands on these items you should.

I just cant get the amount of dexterity required for The Eternity Shroud. How do I fix that

And btw, is the eternity still obtainable? Not a single one on the market yet and the endgame bosses changed.

Hey, the The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud drops from Uber Elder, which is harder to get to and kill than before. You should expect it on the market soon but it will probably be very pricey in the begining of the league. The Dex requirement can be reached by acquiring Jewelry with 30-40Dex each and you can also pick some 30Dex nodes on the passive tree if it is still a problem.

    This is a great guide!

Can you please add in desired / set Skill Gem levels so we know when to stop upgrading certain main or support gems?

Hey, the only gem you should lock at certain level is Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support, which is mentioned in the Gem section. You may have some Strength issues early on, which may prevent you from maxing out Steelskin Steelskin, but this will eventually be solved with proper gearing and more skill points when you level up. Thank you for the kind words, have a great time in Wraeclast.

I am having trouble with bosses at higher tier maps. I have gotten the eternity shroud and all shaper items but my damage is still very low against bosses. My divine ire only has dps of 180k and cast time of 0.11. Is there anything that I can do to increase my damage?

Hey, the biggest damage improvement you can make is getting a level 21 Divine Ire, your character looks good overall.

Hello, can this build work (not optimally of course, but decently enough to easily farm red maps and beat high tier conquerors) without Eternity Shroud and full shaper set ? My current character is really starting to bore me and I’ve started to level a Divine Ire following this guide but I’m a bit short on currency to get a full gear just yet, and I’m wondering if I should farm for more currency on my other character or if I’m okay grinding it on this one.

Hey, the build has enough damage to deal with endgame even without the full Shaper set + The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud.

Also, another question : is Atziri’s promise enough as the only source of life leech ? It seems a bit low especially if you get unlucky with trickster chaos damage procs.

Hey, Trickster’s Harness the Void is not the only source of Chaos Damage. Atziri's Promise Atziri's Promise provides tons of extra Chaos damage because of all the conversions and the nature of the build in general. The flasks becomes even more insane when you are wearing The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud.
